Data Privacy Law is Here, What Next?

To being with, my sincere thanks to Ms. Shivangi Nadkarni for squeezing decades of her learning into a 30 minutes enriching session. Not only was it an eye opener but also a wakeup call for all of us participants. From rudiments of the DPDPA to complex structured deployment over years, we could get a glimpse of all of it. As this a first of its kind in India and applicable to the companies, organizations, schools, hospitals etc.. etc.., we will have to being with a structure planned.

Globally, protecting data privacy has gained importance, and as citizens, we now have legal rights that we may use. Having said that, a lot of reputable firms had already begun the journey in some way a few years prior. This statute now makes explicit reference to requirements, deliverables, and penalties. All fiduciaries will need to be aware of and responsible with regard to all personal data. Institutions/orgs/companies which collects important personal data like medical records or children data will have to be ultrasensitive to the purpose and safe keeping.

While this may sound an arduous task, there is structure method to get the desired goal. While these initiatives, in the first place should be a self-driven exercise, the legislation gives us flexible time and bandwidth to prepare for the desired objective. In the process of achieving the desired objective, am sure there will be immense amount of learning.

Together, we surely will be able to help build a personal data sensitive society.
